Tryout Prep: The Player Version

Are you prepared for club tryouts?

There are a couple of things to ensure that you're fully prepared for the upcoming tryouts. Firstly, it's essential to maintain and improve your skills so you can showcase them effectively in front of the coaches. We are offering various training opportunities to help you accomplish this.

  • Summer Skills Session 1:

Join us every Wednesday until tryouts from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Register here.

  • Pre-Tryout Camp:

Scheduled for June 22-23 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Register now here.

Remember, it's not just about volleyball training; you also need to stay in shape to endure the 2-3 hour tryout, which involves drills and running.

On the day of the tryout, make sure you arrive looking your best.

  • Dress appropriately: Wear spandex, a t-shirt tucked in, socks, knee pads, ankle braces (if needed) and tennis shoes.

  • Keep your hair in a ponytail, away from your face.

  • Ensure your hair is high enough to avoid interfering with the assigned number on your back.

When you arrive, exude confidence, wear a big smile, and immediately start warming up with someone on the court, even if you don't know anyone. Try to make a new friend during the tryout.

Important things to keep in mind while at the tryout:

  • Effective communication is crucial.

  • Engage in drills by actively communicating with other athletes and offering encouragement between reps.

  • Move swiftly and purposefully throughout the session.

  • If unsure about a drill, position yourself at the end of the line and observe how others perform it.

  • When coaches ask for a demonstration player, be the first to step forward if you understand the drill.

This is your chance to showcase your skills, so give it your all. However, if things don't go as planned, remain composed and avoid showing frustration. Trust that the coaches and evaluators will recognize your abilities despite any errors.

Once the team selection process is complete and you receive an offer, promptly communicate your decision to the club, regardless of whether you choose to join or not. Open and clear communication is appreciated by everyone involved.

If you decide to play with Houston Force, we warmly welcome you to our family. We're thrilled to have you on board. Wear your tryout shirt with pride and be prepared for an exceptional club season ahead!

See you at tryouts!
